Matariki acrostic poem
Maori New Year
Apart from each other, Rangi, the sky father and Papa, the earth mother, were devastated
Tane Mahuta and his brothers separated their parents forever
Appears in the eastern sky
Recognise these bright stars every year
In years gone by, Maori looked to the seven sisters to help them determine the crop for the coming season
Kids stay up late to admire the spectacular sight
In the sky the seven sisters sing beautifully
The cluster of stars beyond the atmosphere
Hearing the seven sisters sing in the sky beautiful
Eyes of tawhirimatea in heaven
Star mother with her 7 daughters shining in the sky
Electra one of the seven sister witches mean sky spring
Very angry tawhirimatea gets and throughs his eyes
Every year a new moon and cluster appear in the easter sky
New moon after matariki some people celebrate
Seven sisters known as the pleiades star cluster
Importance of matariki
Seeing the eyes of tawhirimatea in heaven
The star you send your wish to
Every matariki comes in different days
Rise of the new moon means its matariki
Storyhouses are full in matariki
