day in a life of a bell bird

Bell Birds 🐦

Intro
Hi, my name is everly, I’m a bellbird and I’m going to tell you about my day.

Paragraph  1-
I wake up with the sun warming my feathers.  Once I have become alert, I fly off to find food for breakfast.  Today I will be having some nice nectar if I find any or I will have some jiggly earthworms. Now that I have found some worms, I have to fly all the way back and start making breakfast for my sister, Ava. After I have made breakfast, I wake up Ava.  Ava is my lazy sister that sleeps all day if you let her. ‘’Ava wake up!’’

‘’Ahh I am tired’’  Ava exclaimed. See what I was talking about?  She could sleep all day if you let her. ’’Come on, breakfast is ready’’  I said impatiently. “I’m coming,’’ she responded.

Paragraph 2-
“So what are we doing today?” asked my sister.
“Nothing much, we are just going to go to Western Spring, I heard there are lots of birds there and the big humans give food”
“That sounds remarkable, so let’s go!  What are we waiting for?”
So as we flew we heard so much commotion bep bep, the horn of the car made they were also making this noise vrum, vrum. We sore a couple of stores one of them was called warehouse, we also saw the sky tower.

Paragraf 3-
When we reached Western Spring we sore lots of birds I also saw my most trustworthy friend Emilly, Emilly was a bellbird just like me, she had four children, two daughters, and two sons, they were adorable. Just then I saw a cat me and my sister flew as quick as we could.

Paragraph 4-
there was a kowhai tree nearby, we stopped all that flying made us exhausted and very weak. “Seriously is that the great place that you were talking about,” declared my sister
“Yes, it wouldn’t have been that bad if the cat didn't come “No Everly it was terrible now let’s go home it is way better than a cat chasing us” so we flew off. when we reached home ava said “my ears are hurting after all that noise that I had to hear I could have just slept all-day”
“Well, it wasn’t my fault you wanted to go and you were so excited that you didn't even let us clean the mess we made for breakfast”. It was starting to get dark and my sister had gone to find dinner for us since I made breakfast she had to make dinner I was starting to get worried because she left a long time ago so I waited for a while and finally she came “what were you doing for so long”
“Dah I was gone to find food”
“I know that but you took so long”
“Anyways let’s make dinner”

“Ok” I admitted

” This is delicious” my sister responded. after we finished it was late so we went to sleep the end!

inquiry experiment - vinegar and baking soda

Inquiry experiment

Aim/Purpose :
To see what happens when baking soda and vinegar mix/combine
To see the reaction that occurs when these two substances are mixed

Prediction - What do we think is going to happen:
We think it will explode/ It’s going to blow up
The ziplock bag will pop open and the liquid will spill out
It could fizz up
The bag might fill up with air
Fizz up like soda when shaken
The air pressure created inside the bag will cause the seal on the bag to pop open

Steps:
  1.  Open up a paper towel on a flat surface
  2. Put 4 leveled teaspoons of baking soda in the center of the paper towel
  3. Wrap up the baking soda in the paper towel like a package - Keep the baking soda concentrated in the middle of the paper towel
  4. Tape down your package of baking soda with a piece of masking tape so that everything stays in place
  5. Open the vinegar and pour it into a cup - until the cup is half full
  6. Then open a zip lock bag and pour the vinegar into it
  7. Hold the package inside the zip lock bag, making sure it doesn’t yet make contact with the vinegar - then zip up the bag - making sure that it is completely closed
  8. Let the package of baking soda drop into the vinegar and shake the bag up a little so that they start to mix
  9. Observe what happens

Materials/equipment:

  • Baking Soda  (4 x tablespoons)
  • Vinegar (half a cup)
  • Ziplock sandwich bags
  • Plastic spoon
  • Paper towel
  • Masking tape

Roles within the group:
  1. Presenter - conducts the experiment
  2. Assistant - collects all the materials
  3. Videographer - takes a video of the experiment
  4. Recorder - Record the result

After students have prepared they can present the experiment in front of the class who will be the audience. The videographer can record the experiment and the recording can be shared at a later stage.

The Result - What did we see happen?
The paper towel absorbs the vinegar and it causes a chemical reaction

Variables - How could we change the variables?
Predict what might happen if we change the variables
Experiment - Were our predictions accurate?

Put 5 or more teaspoons of baking soda into the package -
Prediction- Bigger explosion/more powerful If there is too much baking soda and not enough vinegar, it may not work
What actually happened- it was slower then normal

Put more vinegar  - Bigger explosion/not pop
What actually happened- it exploded way faster

Way less baking soda and wrapped in more paper towels - nothing - it would take a longer time to see a reaction

Baking soda - With no package surrounding it - The reaction would happen instantly and uncontrollably

Science - Why did it happen?  Here are some websites to look at…. You may be able to find other websites too!
When vinegar and baking soda are first mixed together, hydrogen ions in the vinegar react with the sodium and bicarbonate ions in the baking soda. The result of this initial reaction is two new chemicals: carbonic acid and sodium acetate. The second reaction is a decomposition reaction.

explanation-how are diamond rings made

Diamond rings are used to make people feel special and to make yourself look rich.

Paragraph 1-
Diamond rings come in different colours and different shapes, for example, it could come in a heart, circular, round or pear shape. The ring also comes in different colours, for example, rose gold, gold and silver.

 Paragraph 2 -
Firstly you sketch the design.  Next a 3D computer generated model is made and it is sent to a 3D printer for physical printing. After that,  thin wax slices are printed layer by layer then two different types of wax is printed. During this process, blue casting wax  is used on the inside and red supporting wax on the outside. With layers so thin it takes 18 hours for the ring model to print. The model is put in a bath containing special cleaning solution then tweezers are used to remove stubborn bits of the surrounding red wax. After several minutes of washing, the blue casting wax is revealed. This model is now attached with the other rings to make a wax tree which is done so multiple rings can be made at once. This tree is covered in plaster and placed in a cluen for many hours until the wax burns out leaving an imprint inside the pastor that is in the shape of a ring. Now it is time to cast the ring. A desired metal is melted into a liquid at a temperature of 1,948 degrees fahrenheit to melt gold or 3,215 degrees fahrenheit for platinum. Once melted, the metal is poured into the mold and placed in cold water to harden and cool. Then the casing is removed and each ring is cut from the tree. The ring is now sent to be cleaned and prepared files are used to  remove the sprue witch connected the ring to the tree. The support bar is detached and the ring is sent to get rid of any rough edges and unwanted metal fragments. Finally the ring is hammered to the correct size and shape. After the final shaping the ring is sent to be pre polished using a buffer, a green rouge polishing compound is added to help make the metal shiny. The ring is then rinsed in an alterationing bath, this bath is mainly made from water and soap and it is used to remove extra oils. Back at the store, the completed rings are received and the stones are picked proper sizing and shape the diamonds are inspected to make sure the cut of the diamond is perfect. These flat cuts in the stone are called facets which in hands the sparkly quality of the stone. Some diamond shapes are round, pear, oval, cushion and princess. Now that the perfect stones have been selected, it’s time to set the diamonds in the band. A shelak wax is used to help keep the ring in place, it’s heated and shaped round the ring.  The diamonds are hammered into their spots and secured with prongs to ensure the stones stay in place, it is important that this is done correctly so no diamonds fall out of the ring. Now the completed ring is sent for a final polish, making sure it shines like the stars.

Conclusion  -

Diamonds were first discovered thousands of years ago in India.  Diamond rings were used as decorations and as talismans to keep away evil spirits. Later they were believed to “cure” diseases. It was only about a thousand years ago that diamonds started being used in jewellery for the first time.
